Living Giraffes appear to have arisen around one million years ago during the Pleistocene. the evolution of giraffes is believed to have been the changes from extensive forests to more open habitats which began eight million years ago
During this time tropical plants disappeared and were replaced by arid C4 plants and a dry savannah emerged across eastern and northern Africa. There are only an estimated ninety thousand giraffes in the wild. Some of these populations
number only a few hundred and are on the brink of extinction and need immediate protection.

At the young age of 18 in 1978 I began working with sculptor Bill Lishman. Soon I was delving into many varied projects with an emphasis in metal sculpture. It was not long before I was left on my own and very quickly developed my own unique skills as well as my own way of doing things. After ghost sculpting for various artists, I started my own company – The Wooden Anvil.

  1. I just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed the giraffes you had on Summit Drive. I live a few doors down and it was a joy to see them everyday on my to and from work. They were beautiful. I love giraffes. I was really sorry to see them go. Thanks again.
